Call me nerdy, but I've always loved 'back to school' time. A fresh year of possibilities ahead of you, squeaky new school supplies and a hint of the refreshing 'sweater weather' days to come. This is my 'new years' - when I take stock of the previous year and get excited about things to come. Lately, I've been reflecting on all my favorite things about teaching your kids and running the studio. Curious? Here's my top five list:
Number One: Hearing from parents about how their child won't stop dancing at home and always wants to come to class. I never get tired of these stories, and wish I had more time to chat with parents about how their kids amaze me and crack me up on a daily basis.
Number Two: Being blown away by a child's creative idea in class, which then inspires me to teach a step/concept in a whole new way. This is when the magic happens! We consider it our role to offer the students the building blocks of dance, and invite them to put them back together in unique ways. Creativity, and sometimes a healthy dose of insanity, ensues.
Number Three: Stepping back and watching our instructors experience this. I have many proud parent type moments when I see them weave magic with the kids.
Number Four: Watching the school grow by 'word of mouth'. I consider friend referrals the highest and best form of marketing. It is my benchmark - it tells me we're making people happy, and I love building a community of families who share our values.
Number Five: Seeing how each little dancer reacts to being on stage at the end of the year. Some soak up the spotlight, while others aren't so sure. It's always a surprise, and it's always adorable!
Happy back to school everyone! Don't forget, our first day of classes happen the second week of September.
